Rikimaru The Stealth Assassin Guide and Walkthrought
Born as the heir to the satyr dominion, Rikimaru was trained by the mightiest warriors of his race. However, the power of the Burning Legion managed to corrupt many of his kind, leaving them as mindless beasts in the forest. Vowing revenge against the Scourge, he sharpened his skills for battle. Using his small size to his advantage, he can render himself invisible, enabling him to stab his enemies in the back. He can also use thick smoke as a cover, to silence his enemies and become nearly untouchable.
Base HP: 473
Base Mana: 182
Strength - 17 + 2
Agility - 24 + 2.9 (Primary)
Intelligence - 14 + 1.3
Base damage 48 - 52
Attack range of 125 (melee)
Base Armor 5.4
Movement speed of 300
Skills
Blink Strike
Teleports to an enemy and strikes at it, dealing bonus damage.
Costs 50 mana.
Level 1 - 30 second cooldown, deals 30 extra damage.
Level 2 - 20 second cooldown, deals 60 extra damage.
Level 3 - 10 second cooldown, deals 90 extra damage.
Level 4 - 5 second cooldown, deals 120 extra damage. Can now teleport to an ally.
Mana Cost: 50
Cooldown: 30/ 20/ 10/ 5
Great skill for chasing and help last hitting in the early games.
Smokescreen
Throws a smoke bomb down in the area, silencing opponents and causing them to miss on most of their attacks. Also slows by 25% at all levels. Doesn't silence item spells.
Lasts 7 seconds.
Level 1 - 250 AoE, 50% miss.
Level 2 - 275 AoE, 60% miss.
Level 3 - 300 AoE, 70% miss.
Level 4 - 325 AoE, 80% miss.
Mana Cost: 75/ 80/ 85/ 90
Cooldown: 15
This skill is really usefull for team battle and ganking enemies. Silencing enemies and yet enemy almost cannot hit you. Smokescreen can also destroy trees, use it to kill Treant’s eyes or Furion’s Sprout if necessary. Smokescreen can’t silence item spells, which means any hero with Guinsoo’s Scythe of Vyse can hex you immediately after you’ve cast smokescreen.
Backstab
The Stealth Assassin isn't afraid to fight dirty, and specializes in attacking his opponents from behind.
Level 1 - Deals .25x the Agility of the SA to the target.
Level 2 - Deals .5x the Agility of the SA to the target.
Level 3 - Deals .75x the Agility of the SA to the target.
Level 4 - Deals 1x the Agility of the SA to the target.
This skill makes almost SA guide focusing on buy agility items. The bonus damage only given when you attack the enemies from behind. In certain angles, you can still get this bonus when you attack beside the enemies. Just watch the blood animation for the successful backstab.
Permanent Invisibility
Hero becomes permanently invisible when not attacking.
Level 1 - 3.5 second fade time.
Level 2 - 2.5 second fade time.
Level 3 - 1.5 second fade time.
Rikimaru’s unique skill. Permanent invisibility means you can slip away to enemy territory without worrying. Getting exp without harassed. Unfortunately, good enemies player will counter you with wards or gems.
Skill Build
1. Blink Strike
2. Smokescreen
3. Blink Strike
4. Backstab
5. Blink Strike
6. Permanent Invisibility
7. Blink Strike
8 – 10. Backstab
11. Permanent Invisibility
12-14. Smokescreen
15. Attribute Bonus
16. Permanent Invisibility
17 - 25. Attribute Bonus
Blink Strike is your primary skills for early games. It can be cast on both allies and enemies, which means you can always Blink Strike to your allied creeps if accident happens and to chase fleeing enemies if opportunity appears. You also need one level of Smokescreen to silence/ mini-stun enemies just in case and Backstab to help your last hit creeping.
Some people will say it is better to take Backstab than Blink Strike because it doesn’t need mana. But in reality, there is nobody outside that will let you hitting creeps from their back. Stealth Assassin will be harassed pretty much until he gains his invisibility. With Blink Strike, you can steal last hitting and getting some gold. The second reason, in the early games bonus damage given by Backstab is smaller compared to Blink Strike. Your agility is still small and your items is still nothing. That’s why we should max blink strike first. Invisibility is taken immediately for obvious reason.
Item Build
1.Ring of Regeneration and 2 – 3 Sapphire Water
2.Boots of Elvenskin
3. Blade of Alacrity
4. Robe of Magi
5. Finish Diffusal Blade
6. Boots of Speed
7. Vitality Booster
8. Blade of Alacrity
9. Finish Yasha
10. Finish Manta Style
11. Get another Yasha
12. More Yasha
13. Power Treads
14. Butterfly
Your items should be like this:
Ring of Regeneration is better than tangoes because Rikimaru has invisbility. He doesn’t have to return to fountain when his HP is low. Just stay invisible, regenerate and leech experience. That’s why the Ring of Regeneration is for. Water is also good for Stealth Assassin because after drink water you can stay invisible. And then problem begin, why we should buy Manta for Riki?
Manta Style is the best counter against gem carriers and all kinds of silence spells. Panic when Silencer/ Death Prophet/ Drow Ranger cast Silence on you, because you’re revealed? Use Manta to break the silence spells and confuse enemies! When Bounty Hunter or Slardar track you, split images to break it. While gem and silence spells are a counter to invisibility, illusions are a counter to gems and silence spells. In particular, using Manta can immediately counter all kinds of silence spells, because AoE silence cannot stop heroes from using item spells. Manta also gives you some sort of HP bonus. It is relatively easier to build up Manta because the most expensive part is the Diffusal Recipe that cost you 1550.
Why we got 3 Yashas??? Yasha is the single best item for Stealth Assassin even if you ignore the additional movement speed bonus. It gives you agility at a relatively low price and all your images benefit from Yasha immensely. Yasha is better than butterfly for several reason. Riki doesn’t need evasion too much, because he is invisible and has Smoke Screen. 3 Yashas also give 48 agility, which means 48 base damage, 48 backstab damage, 48*0.8 = 38.4 damage if you use Manta, plus 7 armor 48% bonus attack speed that almost as good as a hyperstone for you AND your images. Butterfly only gives half the agility, gives you a good but irrelevant bonus called Evasion, and other bonuses that don't apply to images. And the last reason is farming Eaglehorn is a lot harder for Riki comparing with farming Yashas. However, if you have 3 Yashas and the game still goes on, it doesn't harm to get a Butterfly since you have only 1 more inventory slot (throw away the Ring of Regeneration).
Strategy
Pick a solo lane because Stealth Assassin needs to level up to learn Permanent Invisibility as soon as possible. But if you facing a hard lineup and does not feel confident get a lane mate. Early game your own job is to survive and get last hit. Don’t try to be ambitious and harassing with Stealth Assassin. This simply doesn’t work. Your early game goal should be to gain last hit and survive. Unless the chances are really favorable and you’re sure that the enemies will be forced to retreat after you’ve cast a smokescreen, forget about harassing. In most cases, you’ll end up being harassed. Most Stealth Assassin players have serious problems in farming throughout the game. If you can stay in lane for a reasonably long time and take advantage of Backstab to do last hit creeping, you’ve already done half the task.
When your enemies place Sentry Ward on any particular lane, just get Scroll of Townportal and go to another lane. With just 135 gold, you can enjoy painless last hit creeping, so it is worth the price. In addition, do yourself a favor. Watch the timer right after you’ve spotted the Sentry Ward. You don’t want to go there again until the Sentry is gone.
When you reach midgame, continue to do last hit.It is boring and requires attention, but this is the sad fact of all Stealth Assassin players. When you hitting randomly, it means more time that you’re revealed in battlefield. Therefore you will be vulnerable and can easily got killed. With Level 4 Backstab, Blade of Alacrity and Boots of Elvenskin, you have +32 damage so it isn’t insanely difficult to gain last hit. Once you have your Diffusal Blade, help out your team by casting smokescreen and purge. However, before you have Manta, ask your teammates to avoid pushing the lanes that are with Sentry. By doing so you’re spending 200% effort with 50% reward. It is just not worth. Stealth Assassin can’t do anything substantial other than throwing smokescreens and a few occasional Blink Strikes unless he has a first major item, this should be common knowledge.
When your enemies starting to have Gem / Necronomicon it means they want to kill you before you can cast smokescreen in team battles. Smokescreen is very annoying especially in team battles. So, your main task is to throw a smokescreen on enemy heroes before you die. How to do that? The trick is to split images and march in with all the images. Yes the enemies will still see you, but they will be confused on which unit they should hit. That’s the thing you want! Now just cast Smokescreen and then whack your enemies together with your allies. Silence will break your invisibility, but fortunately Manta can break silence spells. Whenever you’re silenced, use Manta. When you are facing Gynsoo user, Manta first before engaging your enemies.Sometimes you also can have advantage with your invisibility by patrolling jungle. When you find enemies jungling, initiate ganking immediately.
In the late game, now that you have Manta and can afford to be aggressive. Continue to do last hit creeping when you’re not in major battles, and confuse the enemies/ protect yourself by images and smokescreens. Once you have Yasha/ Butterfly you can even engage in close combats with enemies, but before that you’re just a combo started/ chaser/ harasser, rather than the power house of your team. The most important thing you should remember, Stealth Assassin is not a 1 on 1 killer. His ultimates does not buff the hero's damage at all, definitely tells you that you should not focus on pumping his fire power. In fact, Stealth Assassin is an assassin and a team combo starter. The ability to blink and drop smokebomb implies that he's the person to set up combos for allies.

Introduction
The Night Stalker. Feared at night, ignored during the day. This hero will let you own without too much effort, at the same time as he's not to be regarded as a newbie hero. You must be proficent with the many aspects of DotA to be an expert Balanar player, not to mention you must have studied this guide thoroughly!
A short breakdown on Balanars pros and cons.
(All his pros are during night)
+ One of the fastest movement speeds in the game. (Outrun by Banehallow in wolfform, Nerubian Weaver Windwalking, Bloodseeker using Strygwyr's Thirst and Bone Clinkz Windwalking)
+ Attack speed is supreme.
+ One of the best nukes in the game.
+ Can silence enemies, and make them miss on 40% of their attacks for 8 seconds!
+ Very good vision.
+ Awesome HP regeneration rate. (3.68 at level 1)
- Only crazy good during night.
- Lousy farmer.
- Very itemdependant
Balanar got normal regeneration rate during day. (About 30% of his regen rate during night) I've seen posts claiming he doesn't get any regeneration rate during day at all, but this is not true. He got the same regeneration rate as any hero would, based on his strength. This gives him 0.81 HP/second at level 1. (Daytime)
All in all, I think its great fun to play this hero. Hes not one of those insanely imbalanced heroes, at the same time as he's a killer machine. He's one of those who make a living out of heroes instead of creeps.
Balanar, the Night Stalker
Biography and stats
Balanar was one of the elite Dreadlords before the Burning Legion fell. Now with the Burning Legion gone, he lives his new life attacking villages and ambushing his most hated enemy - the Night Elves. He draws upon his power from the moon, thus he is much stronger at night. Balanar can also use his control over time to change the time to night that further strengthens his power. His presence inspires fear into the heart of many.

Skill Overview
Void (V)
Creates a damaging void. If cast at night, slows the target for 4 seconds.
Level 1: Deals 90 damage. (67,5)
Level 2: Deals 160 damage. (120)
Level 3: Deals 255 damage. (191,25)
Level 4: Deals 335 damage. (251,25)
Numbers in ( ) are the actual damage you will do to a hero. (25% spell resistance included)
Crippling Fear (F)
In the night, the Night Stalker can cause intense fear in enemy units, causing them to miss attacks and be unable to cast spells. 125 mana cost at all levels.
Level 1: Miss on 10% of attacks. Last 5 seconds.
Level 2: Miss on 20% of attacks. Last 6 seconds.
Level 3: Miss on 30% of attacks. Last 7 seconds.
Level 4: Miss on 40% of attacks. Last 8 seconds.
This is an excellent spell which should always be cast at enemies as you approach them. 8 seconds of silence and major miss will greatly increase your chances of killing heroes such as Centaur and Sven 1on1 late game.
Hunter in the Night
The Night Stalker is at home at night. He attacks and moves more swiftly.
Level 1: 15% movement speed, 20% attack speed.
Level 2: 20% movement speed, 35% attack speed.
Level 3: 30% movement speed, 55% attack speed.
Level 4: 35% movement speed, 75% attack speed.
Few notes on the speed:
Balanars speed at day without boots is 295
Balanars speed at day with Power Treads is 355
Balanars speed at night with Power Treads is 479,25 (Level 4)
Balanars movement speed at night with Mask of Madness is MAXED
Darkness (R )
Creates a period of darkness for the Night Stalker to thrive in.
Level 1: Turns day into a 25 second night.
Level 2: Turns day into a 50 second night.
Level 3: Turns day into an 80 second night.
Important to note about Darkness! Your ultimate FREEZE the time cycle. This means you can use Darkness at night to extend the night. You should use it whenever it's ready. I believe you can use it 3 times at level 3 each day and night. This means 240 seconds extension of every night if used correctly.

OBS! This build is the most effective build for a solo lane / or if you to get enough hero kills during the night, to reach level 9 short time after the first night. If you level up slowly, maybe because you are being heavily harassed or are just having a bad time, get level 1 of your ultimate as soon as possible after the first night!
Also, if you feel you need the silence from the Crippling Fear spell earlier, don't hesitate to switch 1 point of it with Void.
Item Builds
When you start out; always buy item 1 and 2. It doesn't matter if it's pick or random, you WILL get enough cash to buy both without losing out on much XP. (In a 5on5 pick/-allpick situation you will have 554 gold when the creeps spawn)
Item 1: Ring of Regeneration (375) (+2 HP regen/sec)
Item 2: Gauntlets of Strength (150) (+3 strength)
Right before the first day turns into night, return to base and purchase AT LEAST Boots of Speed. If you want, pick up a few Clarity Potions (45 gold each charge). They help a lot the first night of hunting.
Item 3: Boots of Speed (500) (+50 movement speed)
Item 4: Gloves of Haste (610) (+15% attack speed)
Item 5: Forming Power Treads (420) (+60 movement speed, +30% attack speed)
Item 6: Voidstone (900) (+100% mana regeneration)
Item 7: Ring of Health [Optional] (900) (+4 hp regen/sec)
Free: Forming Perseverance [Optional] (+100% mana regen, +4 hp regen/sec, +7 damage)
Item 8: Mithril Hammer (1610) (+24 damage)
Item 9: Forming Cranium Basher (1460) (+30 damage, +3 strength, 10% chance to bash for 25 extra damage and 1.1 sec stun)
Total item cost so far: 6,925 gold
Alright, now the basic "must-have" build for Balanar is completed. However, as the game proceeds, you will be in need of more damage to be able to continue your domination. I know a lot of players usually go for Satanic or even worse; Heart, but I find this to be way too defensive. What you need is powers of DESTRUCTION, not some damn healing. My suggestion;
Item 10: Blades of Attack (650) (+9 damage)
Item 11: Broadsword (1200) (+18 damage)
Item 12: Forming Crystalys (1000) (+35 damage, 10% 1.75x critical strike)
Item 13: Demon Edge (2600) (+36 damage)
Item 14: Forming Burize do-Kyanon (750)(+75 damage, 20% 2.20x critical strike)
Total item cost: 13,125 gold
Why go Burize instead of Monkey King Bar? Well, one of the best reasons would be that MKB will cancel the stun effect from the Cranium Basher. (Because MKB has a 30% chance to stun target for 0.1 seconds, something which will override any existing stun). Another reason is the fact that the path to Burize gives you many small buffs for a small amount of gold, (also easier to save up to) while MKB consists of few expencive items, and therefore takes some time before you get any buff at all!
Alternate "after-basic" build #2
Item 10: Ogre Axe (1000) (+10 strength)
Item 11: Broad Sword (1200) (+18 damage)
Item 12: Forming Black King Bar (1600) (+10 strength, 18 damage, 10 sec Avatar)
Item 13: Blades of Attack (650) (+9 damage)
Item 14: Broadsword (1200) (+18 damage)
Item 15: Forming Crystalys (1000) (+35 damage, 10% 1.75x critical strike)
Item 16: Demon Edge (2600) (+36 damage)
Item 17: Forming Burize do-Kyanon (750) (+75 damage, 20% 2.20x critical strike)
Total item cost: 16,825 gold
A powerful build which will make the Night Stalker even more lethal and unstoppable. Use this build only if it's going well for you and you manage to get the BKB before it's too late in game. Remember, if the other heroes get way better items than you, you just won't be able to kill them, avatar or no avatar.
Alternate "after-basic" build #3
Item 10: Claymore (1400) (+21 damage)
Item 11: Blade of Alacrity (1000) (+10 agility)
Item 12: Forming Lothar's Edge (1400) (+21 damage, 10 agility, 9 sec windwalk)
Item 13: Blades of Attack (650) (+9 damage)
Item 14: Broadsword (1200) (+18 damage)
Item 15: Forming Crystalys (1000)(+35 damage, 10% 1.75x critical strike)
Item 16: Demon Edge (2600) (+36 damage)
Item 17: Forming Burize do-Kyanon (750) (+75 damage, 20% 2.25x critical strike)
Total item cost: 16,925 gold
I've got the same notes here as on build #2. However, this one gives a completely different style of play. The Windwalk will greatly increase your abilities to ambush, as well as it can more easily get you out of troubles than what BKB can. (BKB only protects you from disables and other spells, but lategame the normal attack is often more lethal). Of course windwalk can be countered by gem or wards, so consider the gamesituation before choosing between build #2 and #3. (If you got Bone Clinkz, Stealth Assassin or Bounty Hunter on your team, the opposing team will most likely have invisibillity counter-measures ready)
Strategy
The Early Game (1-9)
Ok, I'm just going to guide you through the first day/night cycle.
When you have bought both the RoR and Gauntlet of Strength, go to a lane. I suggest trying to get a lane for you only or go middle (Middle is a good lane to launch ambushes from, both to the right and left lane). Farming with the Night Stalker is no different from farming with any other strength melee character. Play safe. If you play vs. heavy harassers just stay back and leach XP the entire first day, just make sure you kill a few creeps to afford Boots of Speed by nightfall.
When there's no points left on the timewheel (right before nightfall) use up your mana and return to base. Purchase Boots of Speed and a few Clarity Potions. If you have extra cash buy Gloves of Haste and the recipe for Treads as well.
Now its time to choose your first victim. You are looking for agility and intelligence heroes, preferably with no stun/disable. You are also capable of killing wounded Strength heroes so these will do as well. Use the forests to your advantage, and surprise your victim. You have time, so don't rush it. Wait for the best moment to strike, and then execute the attack. Read further down for the basic hero killing tactic.
After you've got the kill, search for a new one. Use your clarity potions to regain mana and repeat the process. Keep on doing this the entire first night. Go back to fountain to heal / regain mana / purchase additional Clarity Potions whenever necessary (As I said; you have plenty of time for it). If you get 4-5 kills the first night (without dying) youve done well, and can probably purchase your Power Treads (And Perseverance) at dawn.
Watch Replay #1 to see this in action.
Middle Game (10-16)
Play as during Late Game.
Late Game (17-25)
Alright, no need to break this further down. The Night Stalker plays pretty much the same during the entire game. What's important to note is that your success in the early game stage is crucial for continued domination later on. When playing the Night Stalker it's easy to overvalue your abilities and run to the certain death. This is the beginning of Balanars downfall. Without items he just wont be even a decent hunter later in the game. The Cranium Basher is a must to get during midgame, and the Burize is as important to have acquired during the later stages of the game.
Also, use your Darkness skill whenever its ready. At Level 2 and 3 its especially good as you can usually do more than one attack before the duration runs out. Use only level 1 when you are certain to get 1 kill (or more), or to get away from death.
Hero killing basics, tips and tricks
The basics
Killing with the Night Stalker is easy, and takes very little practice to become proficient with it. You strike during night, hit, hunt and then escape. The best way to do this is to hide, and get between the hero and his/her base. When your target is far enough away from safety (like a tower) attack (from behind) and hit the hero normally until he/she starts running. Cast Void and continue attacking the hero. Thats it. Finish the hero with another Void if necessary. Later in the game include Crippling Fear if you must. This should always be cast on heroes with disablers, or heroes who will otherwise defeat you 1on1.
DO NOT charge heroes 1v2.
DO NOT chase a hero into your certain death, even if you are confident to get the kill. (You need gold)
DO NOT attack a hero if you don't have enough mana to cast Void. Preferably 2 Voids.
DO NOT waste Darkness during the day. Use it only when you have located your target and are ready to strike.
Tips and tricks
- Farm during the day, hunt during the night. (Dont use Darkness to farm better though)
- Use the forests to your advantage. You do best when you surprise your enemies.
- Keep in mind that Balanar got excellent nightvision. (Better than during the day?) This is important when you move about at night. You can see the enemies long before they spot you, which allows you to hide and wait for them. However, dont push it; always keep safe margins from them, to avoid being accidentially seen because of miscalculation.
- Seek out heroes whom farm alone. Find a good spot to launch an ambush from, and strike when you judge the time to be right. Be careful to not be spotted on your way. Stay clear of enemy creeps! Most heroes DO run when they see the Night Stalker approaches.
- If you did not read the skills section, I will repeat it here. During night, use Darkness whenever its ready. It will extend the night. (To get maximum effect out of your ultimate)
How to counter Night Stalker? (And maybe counter the counters?)
Strength heroes
Balanar gets in troubles when he faces heroes with large amounts of hit points. Not necessarily because he wont be able to defeat them, but because it takes long time to kill them if they flee. This will usually end up with them receiving backup or getting into safety. The best way to counter this is to only attack/ambush them when they are low on HP.
Magina, the Anti-Mage
What a pain in the ass. This guy will deplete Balanars mana pool in seconds, not to mention the health pool. I would avoid him in games, unless you got ideal conditions for defeating him. (Night, he got low HP and he doesnt know where you are) If he blinks in to kill you on the other hand, the best thing you can do is either flee, or if its night cast Crippling Fear and immediately follow up with Void. If you got Cranium Basher as well, you should be able to kill him fairly easy. During day, just flee.
Replays
Alright, here I will post replays as I get them. There's currently none, as all of my previous replays were for v1.17 of TFT.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question:
How do u kill medusa in de lategame when she got her mana shield up? me friend got dis sick obsession wif her n kept pwning all de games...need sum real strats...
Answer:
The key here is to catch her alone and far away from safety (taking out 2000hp and 1000 mana may take some time:))
Also it's important she does not outlevel you too much or have way better items than you (That shouldn't be a problem if you pick on her alot during early game as well). You should at least have basher, and preferably Crystalys as well. Here's what you do:
Attack her from behind, and do it right after a wave of creeps have passed (So they won't help her) Attack her normally, you should outdamage her as you have the occasional stun from the Basher and hopefully criticals from Crystalys. Your attackspeed is way better than hers. If she tries to run away, just hunt her as usual. (Void when ready and attack normally)
Anyway, I'm not saying you are guaranteed a kill, as she might get away. However she should in no way kill you in a 1on1 situation.
Tips:
- Attack her when she's low on health and has the Mana Shield off. Surprise her from behind and throw Crippling Fear. Now she won't be able to use her manashield before you kill her.
- If she use Purge, follow it up with Void. This will neutralize the effect.
- If she doesn't flee (but attack you) cast Crippling Fear. She'll miss on 40% of her attacks and wont be able to use Lightning or Purge on you.
- If she recieve backup during the fight, or manage to overpower you, cast Crippling Fear on her and run away. She won't be able to purge you, and you'll get away easily.
Question:
Lets say if my cousin used Rhasta's ultimate(That Serpent Ward thingy) At lvl 3 of his ultimate he can cast out a chunk of 8 Wards. What if he casts that spell directly on me? Wouldnt that trap me and it would ensure certain death. Need your idea to counter that trap if i was the night stalker. Thx.
Answer:
In fact, Rhasta can trap any hero at all 3 levels of his ultimate. The trick is to stand close to you and then target you directly with the wards. Usually, to make this work, he has to hex you first, to be able to get close enough, and then throw the wards. To counter this, you should never let him get that close to you. If you got silence, silence him and go for the kill / flee. Lategame you will have 8 seconds of silence, and that's usually enough to kill him.
Also, if you use Alternative Item Build #1 with Black King Bar, activate it when he approaches and he won't be able to hex you or trap you in his wards.
If he DO manage to trap you, you're in an awful mess. The only thing you can do to avoid heavy damage/being killed, is:
1) Try to kill enough wards to be able to escape from the prison. (very hard)
2) Use the Item Build alternative #2 (With Lothar's Edge) This will give you 9 seconds of invisibillity which gives you allies 9 seconds more to save you.
Mortred The Phantom Assassin Guide & Walkthrought
Mortred The Phantom Assassin Guide & Walkthrought
Born into the reclusive Night Elf order known as the Wardens and shunned by mainstream Night Elf society, Mortred pledged allegiance to the Scourge to take revenge. A perfect blend of strength and speed, the years spent alone in the forests of Ashenvale allowed her to blend into the terrain, appearing phantomlike at times and striking when you least expect it. The deadly precision with which she carries out her attacks have made her a valuable member of the Scourge, and it is clear why she is known as the Phantom Assassin.
Base HP: 473
Base Mana: 169
Strength - 17 + 2.05
Agility - 23 + 3.15 (Primary)
Intelligence- 13 + 1
Base damage 46-48
Attack range of 100 (melee)
Base Armor 4
Movement speed of 310
Strengths and Weaknesses
Positives
Strongest Critical in the game (4x!)
Has one of the greatest passive skill named Blur (28% evasion)
Most frightening hero if she got the right item
Has a skill to help farm early game
Negatives
Low starting HP and melee range
Fragile early game
As with all melee heroes, prone to disable-lock
Very low intelligence gain
Your most noticable weakness is your early game fragility. This guide's build will focus on items that will attempt to make the early game easier at an acceptable price, as well as being a worthwhile investment even in the later stages of the game.
Later in the game your power increases drastically through your critical, high Agility gain and chasing ability. If you survive early you will annihilate your foes later on.
Skill Descriptions
Stiffling Dagger
Hurls a dagger which deals minor pure damage and slow the unit's movement speed for a short duration. Deals half damage to heroes.
Level 1 - 40 Damage, 20% Slow. Lasts 2 seconds.
Level 2 - 80 Damage, 25% Slow. Lasts 2.75 seconds.
Level 3 - 120 Damage, 30% Slow. Lasts 3.5 seconds.
Level 4 - 160 Damage, 35% Slow. Lasts 4.25 seconds.
On the early games, use this skill to farm, farm and farm. IceFrog give this skill to Mortred at 6.51 only to help her farm. On the late game, this skill is still usefull to slow down the enemy while you chase it. This will be the skill that we will be maxing first.
Blink Strike
Teleports to a unit and strikes at it if it is a foe, dealing bonus damage. Casting range improves per level.
Level 1 - 30 second cooldown, deals 30 extra damage.
Level 2 - 20 second cooldown, deals 60 extra damage.
Level 3 - 10 second cooldown, deals 90 extra damage.
Level 4 - 5 second cooldown, deals 120 extra damage.
Can teleport to an ally.
This is the skill you're going to be using just about all the time. It can be used for last hits, harassing, chasing, and even fleeing.
Blur
The Phantom Assassin becomes hard to see by blurring her body. Some enemy attacks miss.
Mortred unique skill. This skill somehow one of the best passive in the game. With 28% evasion, you will be hard to kill and since you became a giant dot, some noob won’t notify that you already attacked him. Unfortunately, this skill won’t help you against nuker on early game.
Level 1 - 7% dodge.
Level 2 - 14% dodge.
Level 3 - 21% dodge.
Level 4 - 28% dodge.
Coup De Grace
Mortred has refined her hero-killing skills to a high degree. She has a small chance to deal 4 times normal damage on an attack.
Level 1 - 15% chance to 2.0x critical.
Level 2 - 15% chance to 3.0x critical.
Level 3 - 15% chance to 4.0x critical
This ability gives you the highest DPS in the entire game. A Mortred critical is completely unmatched in strength- nothing compares to it. This is what makes your hero so feared!

Levels 17-25: Stats
Your first skill is blink strike, it will help you escape from level 1 ganking. We maxing Stiffling Dagger as fast as possible. This skill will be very usefull during early games. Like the other low HP agility hero, you’re gonna have a hard period of farming in early game. Especially when you’re facing nuker. When you do, use Stiffling Dagger to help you last hitting. Your main focus on early game is farming as much as you can (and don’t die!). Stiffling Dagger also a great skill for harassing. Even though the damage is poor, if you use it when the creeps chase the enemies heroes, the slow will give great damage.
After we max Stifling Dagger, Blink Strike is next. Those two is give pretty much damage with low mana cost. Since we skip stats, your hp will be low. But Bracers will fill this gap. Coup De Grace is taken early, because this is the one who make everybody feared her.
Item Build
1. Tangos + Gauntlet of Ogre Strength + Clarities
2. Ring of Health
3. Void Stone (Finish Perseverence)
4. Finish Bracer
5. Boots of Speed
6. Another Bracer
7. Belt of Giant Strength
8. Glove of Haste
9. Finish Power Treads
10. Claymore
11. Broadsword (Finish Battlefury)
12. Mask of Death
13. Helm of Ironwill (Finish Helm of Dominator)
Your core item should be like this:
Late Game Items
Basically, your core items will be enough to make your enemy fear you. Your damage output is already high enough. But when the games prolonged, then you will need to grab more items for your survivability, since the enemy is most likely focusing on you. Go for BKB, if your enemy have so many disabler (Rhasta is sucks indeed!). Your evasion won't save you from spells and nukers. Satanic will give you bigger lifesteal and HP, will help you against another DPS hero. Assault Cuirass will greatly increase you IAS and reduction to your enemy armor. Monkey King Bar will also add more damage output from you. Finally, HoT will make you even Godly. When you get all of this items, probably no one will beat you..
Strategy
Using Mortred means you will have to be very carefull to not let her die. Your primary mission is only to farm and survive. Don’t waste your time by looking early frag, you will get it in the late game. Now then, the first two build items are pretty self-explanatory. Alternatively you could buy a Chicken and Bracer parts/Flask, whatever suits you. Once you do reach your lane quickly take note of your enemy heroes. If you're against two heroes and one of them is a nuker then stay as far back as you can without losing experience.
If you're against just one hero or two weak early gamers then begin farming immediately. If you're against two heroes and at least one of them is a nuker then you will begin farming at level 3 with Stiffling Dagger (or level 1 if you have a great timing with the Stiffling Dagger). The idea behind this is simple- when an enemy creep hits the low red hit it with your Dagger. This will help you farm while stay away from their nuke. Maybe for the first time using this Dagger, you will miss the hit or didn't get the last hit. Stiffling Dagger need some timing to use it properly. After several shot, i'm surely sure you will get the timing.
The damage to the creep is not instant. It's like a range heroes attack, so you must use it with proper timing
The first major part of my build is the choice of Bracers. Put simply, Bracers are the best value item that Mortred could ever buy. The HP boost they give is invaluable and they're really, really easy to make. Bracers are for early game survival, and they fit the bill very nicely. Especially in Mortred's case they completely outdo Nulls and Wraiths, since you don't need much mana for Stiffling Dagger and +3 to Agility is pretty negligible. Bracers beat out items like Vanguard and the Point Booster as well, being composed of smaller, cheaper items giving you more control over when and how you purchase them.Next comes the Ring of Health, which is used for your later Perseverance with Void Stone and give you HP & mana regen, which will now allow you to harass with Blink Strike and Stiffling Dagger. The best possible time to do this is at your tower when the enemy hero is starting to move back until the creeps push toward him again. When he moves away quickly cast Blink Strike on him followed by Stiffling Dagger and hit him in the back several times, then quickly run back to the safety of your tower. If you do it right then you'll take a good 200+ HP from your opponent at the cost of a small amount of mana. However, this takes practice to know when exactly you want to Blink Strike in. If you do it at the wrong moment your enemy will be prepared and will retaliate, which is bad. Practice will assist you greatly in learning this skill.
Your Perseverance shouldn't take very long to complete and with these items you are much easier to use your skill often. After getting Boots and Belt of Giant Strength, you'll have a lot of HP compared to a good many heroes and your HP regen probably outdoes anyone else on the map. It's possible to get kills at this point with nothing but Stiffling Dagger, Shadow Strike and a weak critical if you choose your target right. Look for weakened heroes and soft targets such as the Sniper. Try to get a kill or two here if you can, and if not then just go back and farm up to your Battlefury and Treads. It's very likely that you won't be able to kill anyone here. Don't think you've been doing something wrong because you can't. Stiffling Dagger is always available to you for assisting in ganking, remember.
With Perseverance, a level 2 Coup De Grace and maxed Stiffling Dagger & Blink Strike it becomes even more possible to kill heroes. If you face weak hero, just jump with Blink Strike, Stiffling Dagger, hit, another Blink Strike and Stiffling Dagger will make the enemies hardly escape from you. The low cooldown of both skills is the key for this scenario. If you're not sure about your target, don't hesitate. Don't risk you life. If you die too much, your late game will be ruined. Just go to forest and farms some creeps.
I should note now that I'm not going to go into specific ways of using Blink Strike to escape enemies. With Mortred (unless they changed it again) it's possible to Blink Strike your allies, allowing you to possibly escape what could be a fatal situation. This doesn't happen all that often- there will actually be instances where Blink Striking to a creep will slow you down rather than help you get away. Usually the only time Blink Striking to an ally will help you is if the unit is moving in the direction that you want to go or is not moving at all, otherwise it'll probably just slow you down. Just keep it in mind and if you see an opportunity to do it, then do it.
At this point in the game it's likely that some pushes will be happening as well. When the enemy team pushes you want to stick yourself onto the most fragile hero you can find and just whack at them. If an enemy attempts to flee then Stiffling Dagger him and chase him down, as that's what you're best at. You really aren't that strong when it comes to team fights but your slow will be a big help in these situations.
By the time you're level 16 with your Coup De Grace at level 3 you should have your Treads, Bracers and Battlefury. If you haven't been able to farm that much you're probably going to lose. With Battlefury, your criticals are going to be a major force to be reckoned with, and heroes are going to really start fearing your high damage. Battlefury will also help you fast farming and make great amount money for your luxury.
Your next item is Helm of Dominator and life leech the enemies. The leech will help you survive on battle since the HP regeneration is minor right now. After get your Helm of Dominator search for some Stomper and remember to have your Stomper with you. You'll want him around at all times because he may save your life or net you a kill. If a hero is foolish enough to be running around alone then show him no mercy- there isn't much that can handle you 1v1 at this point except for heroes with high DPS AND disables. As long as you can stick to the hero and keep leeching him he probably won't be able to kill you.
Your Battlefury will send your criticals to 450+ and you'll be getting them quite a lot because of your high Agility and decent IAS. Combine this with the life leech virtually no hero can handle you alone and few heroes can escape thanks to your slow and your Blink Strike. Your biggest fear here is ganks, and because Mortred has no reliable escape mechanism you're going to have to rely on intelligence to stay alive. Stick with your allies and watch your mini-map so that your foes can't stop your slaughterfest with a few ganks too many.
Your Battlefury will make you farm like hell and there are a couple of items you can consider. The first is to grab another strong item like Monkey King Bar, Assault Cuirass and the second is to get a survival item like Satanic or Black King Bar, depending on your enemies. Black King Bar helps against (you guessed it) disabler and further damage is generally purchased when you want some extra oomph on your criticals or need to defend against large creep pushes.
When it comes to team battle, hid yourself. Wait until the battle initiate and quickly jump to the weakest enemy heroes, like Snipers. In the middle of chaos, the enemy will hardly get a quick response to your attack. After get your target, quickly jump into the another enemies with lowest HP. Even if they are fleeing, with Stiffling Dagger and Blink Strike, you will get them in no time.

Core Items
REASON
Blink Dagger - Ah….your key item to pawn mid game.I will explain on how to use this item in the tricks section to make this item worthwhile for it’s price.
BOT - BOT vs PT,BOT wins for obvious reasons,PT gives 10str,+65 ms and +35% attack speed….well…..the only thing you need from PT is the ms,while BOT covers it all up.You don’t need the life, damage and attack speed(vanguard can cover the life for ya),thus the TP given by BOT is bad to waste.
Heart - What kind of a tank doesn’t buy a heart?
Vanguard - Rush this item its a must on axe.Regen, block and life.Axe would really want this item, while he’s tanking everyone he catches after using call.
If the Game Goes On

Lifesteal items are definitely not needed.Your not gonna attack so much, you would be spinning.
Vanguard
Shop Level: New Recipes
Description:
+5 HP regen/second
+250 Hit Points
65% to block 40 damage
Don’t get a 2nd vanguard,it could be useful. But saving for a reaver then complete heart would be much better.
Rune Section
Haste - So that you can roam around the map to get a couple of kills.
Invisibility - Main purpose for ganking.Use this rune and go to the nearest enemy and tell your ally to harass him, then use your call and battle hunger and end it with a culling blade!
Note:I only place the runes that could be useful for axe.
Strategy
Early Game - Get a stout shield and tangoes.Choose top if senti and down if scourge, use the Charge! technique to harass your enemy.Farm for your vanguard while harassing your enemy(you can farm it while harassing because of counter helix).Buy ring of health first then vitality booster to complete vanguard.Do the Hunger-harass with a spinning flirp technique then finish it off with a death-bringing culling blade.Continue to farm for your blink dagger.
Middle Game - Ah….now you have your dagger(always bring tp btw, your a pretty good defender,if your team is having trouble with pushing and defending please bring a tp all the time which is why i advice you to buy BOT).Time to use the Jump in and scream technique, always use this if you plan to gank a lonely farmer,or even to start clashes, use culling blade to ks.get your BOT when you have the money.
Late Game - focus on pushing/defending,finish it off with a heart(your a tank remember that many heroes love to hit you simply because your a big and fat hero with the flag thingy on your back).Your aim is to catch everyone with the Jump and scream technique and btw your culling blade is not that useful late game(huhuhuhu).Get your ass a cuirass and it should be over!
Jungling
Jungling could be a good choice for Axe.Your starting items are the same though,no change at all except your lane(which you dont have).Just keep killing neutrals and gank whenever you are needed with the team, but i suggest to go to a lane because it would really help your allies.Your not only a tank/early/mid game killer, your also a pusher/defender!
Tricks
Jump in and Scream to the heavens! - Use blink dagger and simply use call, but pls try to catch everyone in the call so your allies can pawn on them.
Do not run we are your friends! - This is useful early / mid game whenever your opponents are wind walkers, this is really useful.Use the charge technique to harass them and(they will probably WW by now).Use call to make them attack you and finish it off with culling bladex
Charge! - A common technique, yet your main harassing skill.Simply target the enemy hero and the creeps should be attacking you and you’ll keep spinning around with your enemy.
Hunger - harass with a spinning flirp - Use battle hunger and charge technique at the same time,if they run it would hurt him because of the battle hunger or if he tries to last hit it would hurt them from your counter helix.
Good Allies and Bad Enemies
Good Allies
These are all stunners. Why?Stunners give you time to position yourself to make a call.
Note:They are not really useful if you have blink dagger. If you plan not to get blink dagger then these are your best friends!
He’s your best friend because of vacuum(make him use vacuum to your enemies and bring them near to you).
Why?He uses stun then he uses epicenter but when he starts channeling for his epicenter you blink in and call and bye bye to your enemy!
She gets a special mention!Tell her to use swap then you call then battle hunger then keep spinning around and a stun for venge would be good then finish it off with a culling blade!
This could be a good combination.use your call then let yurnero decide if he uses blade fury or omnislash, either way is good.
Bad Enemies
His ulti can rip you to sheds, but he would need an ally to take you down to hell.
hes your big competitor late game, although you got no problems with him during early/mid game, dont make him farm or you’ll die a painful death!
she could be a pain to you early/late game at early game she can harass you alot with her frost arrows and making it hard for you to harass her at late game she could kill you but it would take her time.
i hate this ursa,he could kill you even if you have a heart and a vanguard(huhuhu)
